Start Your 14-Day Free TrialHotshot rigs, a heavy-duty pickup plus a gooseneck or flatbed trailer, often go over 10,000 lbs in combination, which brings them under FMCSA rules.
When you need an ELD
- Combination weight rating of 10,001 lbs or more in interstate commerce means Hours of Service rules apply
- If you keep logs more than 8 days in any 30-day period, the ELD rule applies unless another exception fits
- Combinations of 26,001 lbs or more (with a trailer over 10,000 lbs) generally need a CDL
Why brokers ask for ELD tracking
Even when the law doesn't require an ELD for your vehicle, many brokers and load platforms ask carriers to share location through an ELD before they'll tender a load. It lets them track the load without check-calls and helps prove you're a real, active carrier.
LOGWAY works with Highway and Trucker Tools, so you can share your ELD tracking with brokers who use those platforms.
