Does a sprinter van legally need an ELD?
FMCSA's Hours of Service and ELD rules apply to commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 lbs or more.
Many sprinter and cargo vans are rated under 10,001 lbs, so they're usually not covered. Some heavier-rated models and van-plus-trailer setups can go over. Check the GVWR on your door-jamb sticker.
Why brokers ask for ELD tracking
Even when the law doesn't require an ELD for your vehicle, many brokers and load platforms ask carriers to share location through an ELD before they'll tender a load. It lets them track the load without check-calls and helps prove you're a real, active carrier.
LOGWAY works with Highway and Trucker Tools, so you can share your ELD tracking with brokers who use those platforms.
